Welcome to Brooklands College a Further Education college based on two campuses, one in leafy Weybridge and the other in Ashford, close to Heathrow Airport. We are proud to be one of Surrey’s largest providers of vocational training and further and Higher Education. Our course offering is diverse and our teaching excels, with students travelling long distances to benefit from the Brooklands College experience. The support we provide for our students is also second to none and well recognised as one of our key drivers for success.
We have been building on the college’s established expertise and developing our provision to meet the constantly changing demands of the local, regional and national economies. The college was also awarded ‘Good’ by Ofsted after the college’s December 2013 inspection; I am very pleased with this achievement and quoting from the report Ofsted which said that ‘Vocational students achieve well, developing good practical and technical skills to support progression to higher levels of study or employment.’ I am happy to see that once leaving Brooklands College our students are going on to develop their careers or further studies. Our Catering and Hospitality curriculum area also obtained an ‘Outstanding’ grade which is testament to the hard work and focus of the teaching staff and the students they teach.
We already have strong vocational programmes for full time students and offer a wide choice of A levels; most recently we have fast tracked our apprenticeship programme, with new pathways being developed to suit the needs of local and regional employers. Courses for adults include professional and Higher Education choices making it easy for people to study locally on a part-time basis saving them both time and money.
Exciting times lie ahead for Brooklands as our plan is to continue to develop the courses offered on both campuses. We have a forward looking programme with a focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) across all curriculum provision from Sport to Healthcare. Much of this will take place in partnership with local and national employers. We have ambitious development programmes for both campuses which will see our campus facilities improve and the student experience widen.
Our students leave us with qualifications and skills that stand them in good stead for a place at University, a job or further professional or vocational studies to enhance their careers.
Our aim is to be ‘Outstanding Every Day’ in every aspect of our work. Whatever your aims, Brooklands College can help you achieve them.
Brooklands College Governors
Under the terms of the Further & Higher Education Act 1992, the most senior body within any further education college is its Governing Body. Brooklands College’s Governing Body determines the educational mission of the College, its strategic direction, oversees its financial performance and safeguards its assets.
It does this through a committee structure where it meets with the College’s senior management to determine and monitor the College’s performance and planning. I am currently Chair of the Governors and have been involved with the college since 2007. Our priority is to ensure that the college provide an optimum learning experience for all Brooklands students and to support the staff in achieving this.
My fellow governors and I are all volunteers and have significant professional, business or community experience. We use this wealth of experience and knowledge to inform the Governing Body’s collective decision-making through the range of committees we attend throughout the year. Staff and students also have their own Governors whom they elect. These Governors participate in all Governing Body committees and represent both the staff and student voice. The day-to-day governance business of the College is managed by the Clerk to the Governors, whose autonomy from the management structure of the rest of the College assures our independence.
