Course Content

With this qualification there’s no need for any prior accounting knowledge. This qualification will give you a solid background in single entry bookkeeping.

The introductory level consists of four units:

1. Introduction to bookkeeping

  • Understanding the job role and career path for a bookkeeper
  • Understanding different types of business organisations
  • Knowing the terminology used in bookkeeping


2. Working within bookkeeping

  • Understanding single-entry bookkeeping
  • Knowing the general principles of VAT
  • Understanding what is meant by both cash and credit transactions
  • Understanding the principles of coding and batch control
  • Understanding how to process information in the books of prime entry (excluding the journal)
  • Understanding responsibilities when working in a bookkeeping environment


3. Bookkeeping and accounts

  • Knowing how to complete financial documents
  • Recording cash and credit transactions in books of original entry
  • Preparing bank reconciliation
  • Understanding the petty cash imprest system
  • Extracting a trial balance from ledger accounts

9 weeks.

Suitability

The aim of this qualification is to introduce you to key single-entry manual bookkeeping skills.  The course is suitable if you are looking to gain a solid introduction to bookkeeping, if you need bookkeeping skills for your business or you would like to acquire new skills to help with a change in your career.

Course fee includes exam fees.  AAT Membership - £40. 
(Course Fee free to the unemployed plus £40 AAT membership fee paid separately to the AAT)

You may need to purchase a textbook, but will be advised of this at the start of the course by your tutor. Costs in the region of £10 - £20.

Students are allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred.
All students will be subject to a £20 registration fee per academic year.
