Weybridge,

Course Content:

The course has been devised according to the syllabus laid down by Cambridge ESOL.  The course covers teaching methodology, language analysis and issues relating to pronunciation, giving trainees a theoretical background as well as practical experience in the classroom.

It is recognised by LSIS, qualifying trainees to work in ESOL & EFL in Further Education (FE) as well as the private sector. It now also incorporates the new PTLLS qualification and provides credit points and hours for the DTEELLS programme leading to full FE qualified teacher status.

The students that you teach come from many different countries and many different walks of life and attend voluntarily. They are aware of the fact that you are studying towards a pre-service qualification, and are usually keen to get to know you both in your role as teachers and outside the classroom too.

All tutors undergo rigorous training and are approved by Cambridge ESOL. All aspects of the course are delivered and assessed only by approved trainers. Brooklands has been an approved CELTA centre for over 20 years and has a tradition of providing high quality training with dedicated and professional staff.

Length:

The course is offered on a part-time attending basis during the day and a part-time online programme in the evening; both teaching practice and observations are included in the programme. The daytime course lasts 13 weeks and the evening course lasts 20 weeks.

Guidance on Entry Criteria:

You should be a least 20 years old and have a good standard of education: 2 A levels and 3 GCSEs (O Levels). Applicants who are 18/19 may be accepted onto the course at the course tutor’s discretion.

You need a standard of English, both written and spoken, equivalent to that of an educated native speaker.

We have a rigorous interviewing procedurein which ALL candidates have to complete a language awareness task and attend an interview.  Acceptance on to a course is NOT automatic.

Assessment Methods:

The course is assessed through assignments and observations of teaching. You will be informed of your provisional grade in the week following the end of the course. All courses are moderated by an external assessor.

Progression Routes and Further Study Options:

This is a pre-service qualification and on completion, candidates can teach in private schools and the lifelong learning sector. This qualification also leads onto the DTE(E)LLS course.
