Brooklands College aims to be more than an organisation that is a fair place to learn and work. We want to welcome and celebrate diversity and to ensure that current and prospective students and employees will not be discriminated against - regardless of disability, race, gender, age, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, marital status or working hours. The College is committed to promoting equality of opportunity and to eliminating unlawful discrimination. We are committed to social cohesion and value the benefits that diversity brings to the organisation and the wider community.
Brooklands is committed to ensuring that learning and teaching are available to and accessible for a broad and inclusive range of learners (including prospective learners),
to help ensure that our workforce and student population reflect the community we serve. For more information, please see our policy and action plans in the documents section below.
Brooklands will:
- Undertake assessments of the needs of individual students (and members of staff where indicated);
- Ensure lessons are planned and delivered using differentiated teaching strategies to ensure that diverse learners' needs are met;
- Identify equality gaps in achievement, retention and success data for students, recruitment and turnover for employees and take action to address these gaps as appropriate.
Under its duty as a public body, Brooklands developed equality schemes and action plans for disability, race and gender. These are attached for reference but are now replaced by the Single Equality Scheme and Action Plan. In additional we have an Equality and Diversity Policy which outlines in more detail, our over arching commitment to E&D.
