About this course

This qualification will equip you with the knowledge and understanding to progress to further training in Carpentry at Level 2, and then to progress into a job role in the Construction Industry.

The Level 1 qualification provides you with the Carpentry skills and knowledge, alongside developing an understanding of Health and Safety requirements for working in the Construction industry.

Where will I be studying?

Construction is a booming industry and is forecast to continue with this trend. Therefore over the Summer of 2018, we have invested in our Construction buildings, to improve the space and work conditions for our students.

The additional workshop space created allows both carpentry and bricklaying groups to have the very best teaching and learning experience on their chosen course.

  • Knowledge of Construction Technology
  • Environmental Awareness and Sustainability
  • Principles of Building

 

Who is the course suitable for?

The course is for 16-19 year olds who wish to enter the professional world of construction.

How is the course assessed?

Practical tests, in-course assessment and end of unit tests.

Are there any extra costs?

Students will need to purchase protective overalls and toe-protective footwear as well as a recommended basic tool kit, a reference book and basic stationery.  Students are allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred.

Entry Requirements

What qualifications will I need?

Some evidence of studying at GCSE grade D/grade 4/or working at Entry Level 3 literacy and numeracy.

Progression

Next Steps

Students will generally progress onto a Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry.  Successful students may move straight into employment or continue training towards supervisory and management positions and qualifications within the Construction Industry.
