    There is potential for the qualification to prepare learners for employment in the appropriate vocational sector and it is suitable for those who have decided that they wish to enter a particular area of work. It is broadly equivalent to two GCE A Levels.

    During the course you will study 12 units from a range of areas, example units are shown below:

    •  Sports Development

    Other subjects
    •  Outdoor and Adventurous Activities 
    •  Sports Nutrition
    •  Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise 
    •  Sports Injuries

    Who is the course suitable for?

    This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in sport and who wants to gain a qualification to go into employment within the Sport, Health & Fitness industry, Sports Development, Sports Coaching, Activity Leadership or onto a Sport related Higher Education Course. Students must be willing and able to participate in physical activity, as this is a requirement to achieve certain components of the course.

    The course is a combination of theory and practical units.

    How is the course assesed?

    Modules are assessed individually through coursework and assignments that are set and marked by both internal and external moderators.

    Are there any extra costs?

    There is an initial contribution to be paid at the start of the course for materials and equipment.  You would also be expected to make a contribution to take part in any opportunities that arose throughout the course such as trips or additional qualifications, (e.g. coaching badges). More details on costs will be provided during the application stages.

    Students are allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred

    Entry Requirements

    What qualifications will I need?

    5 GCSE passes at grade C/grade 4 or above, ideally including English and Maths (some subject areas may require higher grades than grade C/4 in a specific subject), or for progressing students successful achievement of a level 2 vocational qualification.

    Next Steps

    The opportunity to enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector or to progress to higher education vocational qualifications such as the Edexcel BTEC Higher Nationals in Sport or related areas.
