This course will enhance your employability skills and knowledge desired by the Uniformed Public Services e.g. Armed Forces or the Emergency Services.
The emphasis at this level is on self-discipline, teamwork and leadership which are vital for any of the Uniformed Public Services.
People who choose to work in the Uniformed Public Services, whether this be the Emergency Services or the Armed Forces, often choose to do so because they like variety and a challenge. These jobs are not conventional desk jobs and staff working in them support each other in order to fulfil their roles successfullly.
All courses start with a 4 day ‘Bootcamp’ to ensure that both teamwork and discipline, particularly self-discipline are embedded into the course. There are a variety of trips throughout the year in the UK, which are great fun and help to develop your team work and communication skills.. Students are required to wear a uniform one day a week, on camp and on any trips and will learn drill and inspection getting them ready for all aspects of the Public Services.
The course consists of some the following units:
• Leadership and Teamwork in the Public Services
• Diversity and the Public Services
• Understanding Discipline in the Uniformed Public Services
• Skills for Land-based Activities
There will be the opportunity to retake either GCSE English or Mathematics (although you must have achieved a 4 grade at GCSE for this option). Students who have not achieved a Grade 3 or above in English or Maths will be expected to resit this.
This course is ideal if you are considering a career in services such as Police, Ambulance, Fire Brigade, Army, Navy, Royal Marines, RAF, Customs & Excise or The Prison Service. Students must be willing to participate in physical activity, as this is a requirement to achieve certain components of the course.
You will be assessed continuously on your coursework and physical activities.
There is an initial contribution to be paid at the start of the course for uniform and induction. You would also be expected to make a contribution to take part in other trip opportunities like Boot Camp and expeditions. More details on costs will be provided during the application stages.
Students are allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred
5 GCSE passes at grade C/grade 4 or above, ideally including English and Maths (some subject areas may require higher grades than grade C/4 in a specific subject), or for progressing students successful achievement of a level 2 vocational qualification
This course can lead to a variety of careers within the Uniformed Sector of Public Services, such as: the Armed Forces, Army, Navy, Customs & Excise etc. You can progress onto the second year of the Level 3 Diploma in Public Services.
If you are a student over the FE funding age, you may be considered for the HNC/HND in Policing
