    Apprenticeships are a popular choice for people aged 16 or above, looking for on the job training and the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications whilst earning a wage. Most of your training will be directly linked to the career you have chosen, gaining practical experience in the workplace.

    An Apprenticeship in IT, Software, Web and Telecoms will develop your employability skills and give you valuable experience of information technology delivery and related activities. You will need to work in an IT environment, working a minimum of 30 hours per week (including training time). Apprentices will need to have a contract of employment.

    You will be working in an IT environment, where your duties could encompass many areas such as Software & Web Development, Technical Support, Telecommunications, IT Project Management etc. Your exact duties will depend upon your employer.

    Course Details

    What will the course involve?

    To gain the full apprenticeship you will work towards the following qualifications:

    • Level 3 Diploma in Professional Competence for IT and Telecoms Professions
    • BTEC Level 3 Technical Certificate
    • Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
    • Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths, English and ICT
    • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

    Mandatory units include:

    • Health and Safety in ICT
    • Development Own Effectiveness and Professional Level 3

    Additional units can be chosen from a selection of more than 40 units including:

    • Customers Care in ICT
    • Technical Fault Diagnosis
    • Working with ICT Hardware and Equipment
    • Copper and Fibre Units
    • Website Software
    • System Operation
    • Computer Games Development

    Entry Requirements

    What qualifications will I need?

    Minimum grade C at GCSE in English and Maths are an advantage otherwise minimum Entry Level 3 at initial assessment in English and Maths are required. You need to demonstrate an interest in IT, be proactive and able to work in a team. All applicants for apprenticeship training will be required to attend an interview and undertake initial assessments.

    Assessment

    How will I be assessed?

    You will be continually assessed throughout your training which will take place in the workplace and you will complete a portfolio of evidence. Your progress will be reviewed regularly and achievable targets set, to ensue you complete your apprenticeship on time.

    If you have achieved Grade C or above in Maths and English (or Grade 4 or above on the new grading scheme), you will not be required to undertake Functional Skills.

    If you have achieved less than these grades, you will be required to achieve a minimum Level 2 Functional Skills prior to or during the apprenticeship. These will be assessed through external examinations and workshops.

    This Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship programme is ideal if you work in an IT/Telecoms role, and want to achieve a formal qualification. Upon achievement you have the opportunity to further progress your studies and go on to undertake a related IT degree programme.

    Job roles this apprenticeship could lead to include Software / Web Development, Network Engineer or Desktop Support Engineer, Digital Marketing Executive.

    Typically upon completion you can earn £18,000 to £23,000 plus.
