    As with most Foundation Degrees, the course is primarily for people who are currently working in a related field who wish to gain a higher level qualification in recognition of their skills and knowledge or who would like to build on existing expertise. It is anticipated that a portion of the course will be linked to work-based learning or to work place simulations.

    We have extensive employer links which allow for the course to be tailored to meet industry needs and current practice. This means that our students are better prepared for the world of work by the end of the course. Studies can be part or full time, so whether currently employed or not we can offer the skills and experience to take you to the next level.

    Full Time - Indicative Programme Structure ​

    Year 1 - You must pass eight module credits at Level 4. Each single module carries 15 CAT points so this means that when you complete Year 1 you will have 120 CAT points at Level 4.
    Year 2 - You must pass eight module credits at level 5 (120 CAT points).

    Part Time -Indicative Programme Structure ​
    Course Length: 3 years, 2 evenings per week 18.00-21.15 Course Code (00973 1A19)

    Year 1 - You must pass four Level 4 modules studied at college plus the core level 4 work based assessment module (75 CAT points).
    Year 2 - You must pass three Level 4 modules plus one Level 5 module and the core Level 5 work based module (75 CAT points).
    Year 3 - You must pass four level 5 modules plus the core double Level 5 work-based project module (90 CAT points).

    Who is the course suitable for?

    For those who are currently working in a related field who wish to gain a higher level qualification in recognition of their skills and knowledge or who would like to build on existing expertise.

    Entry Requirements

    What qualifications will I need?

    Either: A minimum of two years relevant work experience and a current role in an appropriate workplace setting, and a Line Manager’s letter of support and recommendation.  Those without the correct level of qualification may be required to complete a bridging course prior to entry.

    Or: A minimum of one pass at A-level or 6-unit Vocational A-level, plus three passes at GCSE (grades A–C), or O-level (grades A–C) normally including Mathematics at grade B and English Language, or a National Certificate or Diploma or other equivalent qualifications, such as GNVQ/NVQ or other Level 3 vocational qualifications in a discipline related to Engineering.

    Additional Costs


    Cost: £7,200 per annum - You will be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan 

    Equipment:
    •  Pens, pencils, ruler, protractor, compass, eraser, lined paper and a ring binder
    •  Steel or composite toe safety shoes or boots (can be arranged by Brooklands College)
    •  One piece Brooklands College engineering overalls (available on enrolment)
    •  Safety glasses are provided

    Additional Expenses:
    •  Boots and overalls = Approximately £50
    •  Text books = You will be informed of any non-compulsory text books to support the course on enrolment.

    Please note tuition fees may increase in subsequent years both for new and continuing students in line with an inflationary amount determined by government.

    Progression from the FdSc - Topping up to a full degree.

    Having completed your Foundation Degree you will be able to transfer onto the BSc (Hons) Motorsport Technology final year, provided that you pass the optional modules Mathematical Methods 2 and Thermo-fluid Dynamics with a minimum of a merit grade or above.
