SEND and Transition
If you have a learning difficulty, disability or educational need, our dedicated and experienced SEND & Transition team is here to help. Our Entry Level and Level 1 programmes and qualifications offer pathways to further study, employment or independent living.
Course overview
Our provision includes:
- Small group provision
- Wrap-around pastoral, safeguarding and wellbeing support
- Specialist facilities including quiet study areas and time out rooms
- Support with medical requirements and personal facilities where available
- Tailored learning to accommodate different styles of learning and abilities
- Work experience with support from a dedicated SEND work experience officer
- Enrichment activities
- Annual SEND Celebration Awards
- Progression to full-time courses within the college or other education environments
There are no formal qualifications required for this course. Many students who enrol onto this course hold an EHCP (Education, Health and Care plan). If you do have an EHCP and you would like to enrol onto this course, we ask that your case worker emails this document to our EHCP team at EHCP@brooklands.ac.uk
What you'll learn
As part of preparation for adulthood, all students will have the option to select 2 vocational subject areas which will form part of their qualification. These sessions either take place in our dedicated SEND facility, or across our campus workshops and departmental areas:
- Art & Design
- Catering
- Driving Theory
- Engineering
- Hair & Beauty
- Health & Social Care
- Media
- Sport
In addition to the main vocational options, students are offered additional units to help with their social development including:
- Independent living
- Employability skills
- Community access
- Functional Skills (English and maths)
Opening in 2027, all SEND programmes will be taught in our newly constructed SEND facility, also known as the Vickers Building.
Our specialist facilities include quiet study areas and time out rooms. We can also provide support with medical requirements and we provide personal facilities where available. We also support tailored learning, where lessons will always accommodate different styles of learning and abilities for each student.
Career Pathways
There are a variety of courses and levels for students to progress on to within our Foundation Pathways programme as well as progression to full-time courses within the college or other education environments.
