Catering & Hospitality

Savoy Educational Trust

An independent charitable trust, the Savoy Educational Trust aims to advance and develop education, training and qualifications within the hospitality industry. By investing in both the present and future needs of the industry, the trust offers funding to educational establishments, hospitality trade association and charitable trusts undertaking hospitality-related projects.

In a press release, Savoy Educational Trust commented: “The Trustees are always very keen to offer funding to colleges to enable them to develop their facilities, thus greatly enhancing the realistic working environment for the students both present and future and help raise their aspirations. If there is to be a successful transition from education to employment, it is vital that the students have the opportunity to learn from and use modern, up-to-date equipment whilst studying hospitality at college.”

Child Studies

The Nest Day Nursery

The Nest Day Nursery focusses on the individual requirements of all of its children in a safe and nurturing environment, allowing young children to develop their confidence and independence.

Speaking about the relationship with Brooklands College, director Jacqui Yates commented: “The nursery often have students on placement from Brooklands College and have a good relationship with their assessors. We also have had an employed apprentice completing a level 2.”

“We are inspired by many different approaches and theorists, these include; Reggio Emilia, Icelandic kindergartens and Japanese schools. This gives students experience in other approaches as well as the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).”

Construction

The Association of Brickwork Contractors (ABC)

Offering advice and assistance when required and as the trade body representing the largest specialist brickwork contractors across the UK, ABC’s main focus is to protect and support the role of the bricklayer.

Recognising the success of our award-winning Construction department, the Chief Executive Officer of ABC, Eve Livett, commented: “The Association of Brickwork Contractors (ABC) is a huge supporter of Brooklands College and the fantastic brickwork training which is delivered. We are proud to work very closely with the department and believe Brooklands is somewhat ahead of the game in regards to employer engagement and delivering the skills and knowledge relevant to our sector.”

Brick Jackets Ltd

Providing equipment to aid the learning of Brickwork students at Brooklands College, Brick Jackets Ltd is a family-run business specialising in protecting bricks and blocks from extreme weather conditions.

With over 20 years in the building sector, the company recognises that weather conditions on building sites can cause delays and have an impact on budgets.

Fortem

Founded in 2002, Fortem are a nationwide property solutions provider derived from Willmott Dixon, one of the largest family-owned construction companies in the UK.

“Our PA Housing branch have been working in partnership with Brooklands College since 2014. During this time we have offered over 50 placements to students who have completed over 1000 hours of work experience through our Pathways4Life programme. Through these placements we have identified individuals who have been successful in gaining apprentice positions in branch.”

Lee Marley Brickwork

Founded in 1997, Lee Marley Brickwork – voted the best subcontractor working with the Berkeley Group in September 2018 – has grown to become one of the UK’s leading brickwork, scaffolding and integrated façade subcontractors. Serving a wide range of clients across residential, commercial and public sectors, the company values developing the next generation of bricklayers, scaffolders, stone masons and steel fixers.

Being an employer partner of Brooklands College for apprenticeships, Lee Marley also supports the Construction department by supplying bricks and other materials to aid our students’ learning.

“Over the last 3 years we have successfully partnered with Brooklands College by introducing apprentices to the workplace. The continual engagement by the staff at Brooklands College with us and work with the apprentices on and off site is invaluable; not only teaching course requirements but also adding the LMB Syllabus that ensures that they are all site ready and prepared for post training careers within the industry.”

Michelmersh Brick Specialists

Michelmersh, a British manufacturer of bricks, are committed to supporting local further education and remain very supportive of our award-winning Construction department.

The company’s aim is to assist in the education and training of the next generation of bright, highly-skilled workers in the Construction industry. They have generously supplied the Construction department with invaluable materials and tools, including bricks and clothing. Their most recent contribution to the department was a new 16 inchportable masonry table saw, worth just under £1,500.

The British manufacturer consistently plays its part in donating to such initiatives, and in doing so, provides Brooklands Bricklaying students with high quality materials to aid their learning.

Frank Hanna, joint Chief Executive Officer of Michelmersh, commented: “It has been exciting to watch Brooklands’ Bricklaying department go from strength to strength over the past few years. This course offers outstanding opportunities for our youth, which is why we have pledged to continue supporting them as they evolve to become the next generation of bricklayers and the future of our industry.”

OX Tools

Hair & Beauty

Dennis Williams Hair & Beauty Supplies

Dennis Williams was established in December 1955 and is now one of the largest independent hair & beauty suppliers to salons, colleges, schools, academies and mobiles.

“We have been working with Brooklands College since 2009, supplying the hair & beauty department with salon equipment, student kits, consumables, staff CPD, student enrichment and sponsoring student prizes for their competitions. With over 60 years of experience, we take pride in offering our customers a wide range of products which are available through our cash and carries and online.
