Course overview
The Level 2 Certificate in Sport is the perfect introduction to the sports industry, it develops key skills and knowledge around physical fitness, physiology, nutrition and planning & participating in sport events. The course is aimed at learners who are passionate about health and fitness, who want to understand how the human body works and how they can help people to improve their lifestyle and fitness levels.
Your study programme will consist of:
- Your chosen technical qualification
- GCSE English and maths if you are yet to achieve a grade 4 or above
- Personal Development sessions which focus on developing work-ready skills (such as CV writing), independent life skills (such as money management) and personal, social and professional growth.
- Work experience or industry placement (course dependent)

The minimum entry requirements for this course includes GCSE English or maths (grade 0-3), or a Level 1 Functional Skills. Those who do not achieve a grade 4 in English or maths will be required to study this alongside their course.
What you'll learn
Participating in sport, outdoor and adventurous activities, leading an outdoor activity
- Build your teamwork and collaboration skills as you plan and participate in sports activities
- Plan, participate and review your own performance in outdoor and adventurous activities
- Explore the role of national governing bodies in regulating outdoor activities and the meaning of ‘fair play’
- Identify environmental risks and complete health and safety assessments in the context of outdoor and adventurous activities
- Create and plan outdoor activity sessions with objectives, equipment and relevant facilities
- Develop your communication and leadership skills by leading outdoor activity sessions
- Understand the appropriate levels of supervisions for a range of different outdoor activities
- Learn about the correct procedures for assisting people who are injured and what situations require emergency services
You will build a portfolio of evidence throughout the course, allowing you to demonstrate your skills, knowledge and progress over time. This will include coursework and assignments that are set and marked by both internal and external moderators.
What you'll need
All students are expected to purchase a Brooklands branded sports polo-shirt. There will be a variety of college trips that you can take part in. All trips are free, you will be expected to pay for your own travel. Trips include: Hyrox London, Science Museum, St Mary’s strength and conditioning, Southampton Solent University’s Sports Day, Kingston University laboratories and others.
Students are also allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred. You can purchase more printing credits on our online store, which can be found here.
Career Pathways
Upon successful completion of this qualification, learners can continue their education at Brooklands Technical College by progressing onto the Level 2 Diploma in Sport and Fitness.
