The Extended Diploma in Sport, Fitness & Personal Training is an exciting two-year course which explores the interests of sport, coaching, exercise, and health & fitness. The course is endorsed by CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport & Physical Activity) which means on successful completion of Year 1, students will be accredited with a Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification, and on successful completion of Year 2 students will be accredited with a Personal Training qualification.
As well as direct access to employment, the course provides excellent preparation for a sport, exercise, or health & fitness related degree course.
To qualify for this course, you will need a minimum of: 2 GCSEs at grade 4-9 (including English and maths) and successful completion of the Level 3 BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Sport, Fitness & Personal Training.

- Deepen your understanding of sports injuries, risk management and rehabilitation programmes
- Learn how to create your own personal training business, focusing on the development of business skills and understanding business-related legislation
This course is assessed through written and practical assessments, including project work.
What you'll need
All students are expected to purchase a Brooklands branded sports polo-shirt. There will be a variety of college trips that you can take part in. All trips are free, you will be expected to pay for your own travel. Trips include: Hyrox London, Science Museum, St Mary’s strength and conditioning, Southampton Solent University’s Sports Day, Kingston University laboratories and Elevate in London.
Students are also allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred. You can purchase more printing credits on our online store, which can be found here.
Career Pathways
The Extended Diploma provides a great foundation for a range of careers within the Sport & Fitness industry. Upon successful completion of this course, you can find job opportunities as a sports instructor, personal trainer, leisure centre assistant or sports coach.
As students undertake a range of work experience opportunities throughout their course, learners can jump right into their careers upon successful completion of their qualification. The Extended Diploma will also provide the UCAS points required for students to study a range of undergraduate and degree apprenticeships aligned to Sport & Fitness.
