Level 2 Construction Diploma in Brickwork

Course overview
The level 2 Diploma in brickwork is designed to be the perfect introduction to bricklaying. You’ll learn the core principles, practise your skills and construct cavity walls. You will also learn key health and safety regulations and know how to manage sustainability issues of the construction industry.
Your study programme will consist of:
- Your chosen technical qualification
- GCSE English and maths if you are yet to achieve a grade 4 or above
- Personal Development sessions which focus on developing work-ready skills (such as CV writing), independent life skills (such as money management) and personal, social and professional growth.
- Work experience or industry placement (course dependent)

The minimum entry requirements for this course includes GCSE English and maths (grade 3-4) or Level 2 Functional Skills. Those who do not achieve a grade 4 in English or maths will be required to study this alongside their course.
What you'll learn
- Calculate quantities of materials
- Construct basic drawings for building projects
- Interpret drawings, common scales, abbreviations and hatchings
- Learn common construction methods when constructing a building
- Explore different construction materials and their properties
- Prepare your work area, choose your relevant tools and learn how to build different types of walls
- Form basic openings and arches in your builds
- Abide by current legislation and learn how to work safely in a construction environment
- Understand the impact the construction industry has on the environment and how we can reduce its impact
- Develop your teamwork and build effective communication skills in the workplace
What you'll need
You will be required to purchase steel-capped boots, a measuring tape and a Brooklands branded high vis t-shirt. You can also rent a locker on site, providing a deposit which will be returned to them at the end of their course. You will also be allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred. You can purchase more printing credits on our online store, which can be found here.
Career Pathways
Students have the option to progress to a Level 3 Diploma in Bricklaying Construction Skills or an Apprenticeship. Successful students may move straight into employment or continue training towards supervisory and management positions and qualifications within the construction industry.
