Level 2 Apprenticeship in Bricklaying

Due to growing demand in the housing sector, bricklayers remain in high demand across the construction industry. This qualification provides learners with the key skills, knowledge and attitudes required to adapt to projects of varying scale in the construction industry, from repairing garden walls to new build housing or large-scale commercial buildings.

• Ages 16–18: Applicants without a Grade 4 in English and maths will be required to study Functional Skills during the program.
• Ages 19+: Adults are exempt from studying Functional Skills, subject to employer agreement.

• Learn how to use plumb lines and spirit levels to check building alignments
• Use hammers and chisels to shape and trim bricks and blocks
• Carry out setting out, prepare mortar and use a trowel to lay bricks
• Complete projects based on a specification and design requirements
• Liaise with other trades on site and build your professional communication skills
• Utilise modern construction methods and premanufactured elements to construct walls

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will be assessed through a variety of methods, including a multiple choice test, a 12 hour practical assessment and an interview with an independent assessor who will assess your portfolio of evidence that you will collate throughout the duration of your apprenticeship. 

In advance of starting this apprenticeship, students will need to purchase their  own personal protective equipment (PPE). This will consist of Steel or composite toe safety shoes and overalls. Guidance on this will be provided by your employer. 

At the college, you will be allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred. You can purchase more printing credits on our online store, which can be found here.

Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship, you may be interested in continuing your education at university or you may wish to progress onto a level 3 qualification. Many apprentices will also continue their education and employment through their apprenticeship employer.
