Course overview

The Level 2 Diploma in Sport covers key areas such as sport, coaching, exercise and health & fitness. It equips students with the essential knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to start a career in the sport, exercise, or health industry. This course aims to prepare you for employment or to provide you with the qualifications needed to progress into higher education or onto Level 3 Sport qualifications. You’ll dive into nutrition, anatomy and sports performance as you explore the key skills and knowledge required of the fitness industry.

The minimum entry requirements for this course includes GCSE English and maths (grade 3-4) or Level 2 Functional Skills. Those who do not achieve a grade 4 in English or maths will be required to study this alongside their course.

  • Create balanced and nutritious diets for different demographics, understanding the science behind nutrition and calorie intake
  • Understand the importance of adequate hydration and how the media can influence people’s nutritional choices

Throughout this course, there are a wide range of assessment methods to match the knowledge, skills and competencies required of students entering the Sport & Fitness industry or Higher education. This includes coursework and assignments that are set and marked by both internal and external moderators.


What you'll need

All students are expected to purchase a Brooklands branded sports polo-shirt. There will be a variety of college trips that you can take part in. All trips are free, you will be expected to pay for your own travel. Trips include: Hyrox London, Science Museum, St Mary’s strength and conditioning, Southampton Solent University’s Sports Day, Kingston University laboratories and others.

Students are also allocated a certain amount of free printing,  after which a small fee will be incurred. You can purchase more printing credits on our online store, which can be found here.


Career Pathways

Upon successful completion of this course, learners can progress onto the Level 3 BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Sport, Fitness and personal training here at the college. Alternatively, learners can apply for an Apprenticeship in their local area, in the occupation of Exercise and Fitness or Activity Leadership.
