Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Uniformed Protective Services

This course is aimed at students who prefer unconventional and active jobs that require strength and team work. Pathways include working in uniformed & emergency services, including the police force, fire & rescue, armed forces and ambulance services as well as the NHS. There are a variety of trips throughout the year in the UK, which are great fun and help to develop your team work and communication skills.

Your study programme will consist of: 

• Your chosen technical qualification
• GCSE English and maths if you are yet to achieve a grade 4 or above
• Personal Development sessions which focus on developing work-ready skills (such as CV writing), independent life skills (such as money management) and personal, social and professional growth. 
• Work experience or industry placement (course dependent)

To qualify for this course, you will need a minimum of: 2 GCSEs at grade 4-9 (including English and maths) and a Level 2 in Sport or Public Services course.

Throughout this course, you will cover a range of units which include:

• Unit 1 Citizenship
• Unit 2 Behaviour and Discipline (psychology)
• Unit 4 Physical preparation, health and wellbeing
• Unit 5 Leadership & Teamwork
• Unit 7 Planning and responding to emergency incidents  
• Unit 10 Outdoor activities

Students are required to wear a uniform one day a week, on camp and on any trips and will learn drill and inspection getting them ready for all aspects of the Public Services. Students must be willing to take part in community fundraising work and willing to participate in physical activity, as this is a key requirement to achieve certain components within this course. 

All units are assessed through a portfolio of coursework that is designed to demonstrate practical and technical skills through realistic tasks and activities.

All students will need to purchase their Brooklands Technical College Public Services uniform including boots, trousers, polo-shirt and jacket. More information on how to purchase these items will be provided at enrolment.

Students are also allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred. You can purchase more printing credits on our online store, which can be found here.

Upon successful completion of this course, you may progress onto the 2nd year of the course (Level 3 Extended Diploma in Uniformed Protective Services) or directly to an entry-level role or apprenticeship within the uniformed protective services sector if studied as a one-year full-time study programme.

The course provides pathways into uniformed & emergency services including the police force, fire & rescue, armed forces and ambulance services as well as the NHS, local government and the civil service including HMRC, Home Office or Ministry of Defence.
