Course overview

This isn’t just about sitting in a classroom. This course is specifically designed for 16-18 year olds who want to build the real-world fitness, sharp mindset and practical skills that public service employers are looking for right now.

Your study programme will consist of: 

  • Your chosen technical qualification
  • GCSE English and maths if you are yet to achieve a grade 4 or above
  • Personal Development sessions which focus on developing work-ready skills (such as CV writing), independent life skills (such as money management) and personal, social and professional growth. 
  • Work experience or industry placement (course dependent)

  • 3 to 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above or
  • Level 1 BTEC qualification(s)
  • At least Level 1 equivalent achievement in English and maths through GCSE or Functional Skills

  • Getting hands-on practice for public services job interviews.
  • Building the confidence, reflective habits and professional mindset that employers respect.

All units are assessed through assignments designed to demonstrate practical and technical skills through realistic tasks and activities.


What you'll need

All students will need to purchase their Brooklands Technical College Public Services uniform including boots, trousers, polo-shirt and jacket. More information on how to purchase these items will be provided at enrolment.

You will be allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred. You can purchase more printing credits on our online store, which can be found here.


Career Pathways

Upon successful completion of this course, you may progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Uniformed Protective Services. This is a 1-2-year course that provides career pathways for those interested in pursuing a career in emergency services, the military, government or community-based roles. We’ve seen our students secure roles in the Surrey and MET Police Force, Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, NHS, Surrey Fire & Rescue Service and the Home Office.
