Level 3 T Level in Education and Childcare

This course builds on the foundational knowledge gained from the Level 2 T Level in Education and Childcare. You’ll explore early years pedagogy and deepen your understanding of the education sector as you dive into the regulations and legislation required to keep children safe in early years settings. You’ll develop your skills and gain professional experience at a work placement throughout the duration of your course.

Your study programme will consist of: 

• Your chosen technical qualification
• GCSE English and maths if you are yet to achieve a grade 4 or above
• Personal Development sessions which focus on developing work-ready skills (such as CV writing), independent life skills (such as money management) and personal, social and professional growth. 
• Work experience or industry placement (course dependent)

To qualify for this course, you will need a minimum of: 4 GCSEs at grade 4-9 (including English, maths and a science) or the successful completion of the Level 2 T Level in Education and Childcare. You will also need a Disclosure and Barring Service check when you start this course.

• Discover the different types of early years and education provisions that are available
• Understand the many roles and responsibilities within the early years and education sector
• Know the roles and functions of regulators such as the Department for Education, Ofsted and Ofqual.
• Understand how key factors such as government policy, technology, economics and welfare can influence priorities in education
• Build effective communication skills with parents, carers and wider families in professional settings
• Plan and provide nurturing experiences and opportunities to support positive behaviour
• Give feedback and facilitate self-reflection in young children
• Explore theoretical and pedagogical approaches to education
• Understand the role of metacognition in supporting young children
• Develop your understanding of how to support children and young people who speak English as an additional language
• Understand current legislation for health and safety, security and confidentiality, safeguarding and equality
• Gain a greater insight into signs of abuse, grooming, manipulation and exploitation in early years settings and how this can impact a child’s behaviour
• Develop your knowledge of young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
• Explore the cognitive development of children aged 0-19 years
• Learn and apply diagnostic assessments to determine a child’s development
• Continue to grow real-world experience with a work placement that will be completed throughout the length of your course

Upon successful completion of this course, students can progress into early years careers, such as working as an early years educator, support assistants or nursery workers. You may also consider moving into higher education or applying to an apprenticeship.
