UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Practice (Art & Design Pathway)

This course is the second year of the Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design, where students can decide to internally progress and continue to develop their skills for the creative industries. For this qualification, you will investigate historical, cultural and material influences as you reflect on your own art, techniques and visual language. This is a great opportunity to continue to grow your skills and develop project work under your chosen specialism, perfect for your portfolio.

Your study programme will consist of: 

• Your chosen technical qualification
• GCSE English and maths if you are yet to achieve a grade 4 or above
• Personal Development sessions which focus on developing work-ready skills (such as CV writing), independent life skills (such as money management) and personal, social and professional growth. 
• Work experience or industry placement (course dependent)

This course is ideal for students who like to learn in a practical way and are interested in the digital and creative industries. To qualify for this course, you will need a minimum of: 2 GCSEs at grade 4-9 (including English and maths) and a Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design.

Throughout this course, you will explore a wide range of art and design disciplines, experimenting with new techniques and mediums. You will respond to a brief and build a portfolio of work through experimentation and reflection of your own work and ideas.

As you develop your skills and build inspiration for certain techniques and art styles, you will focus on a specialism, which will then be developed throughout the qualification.

You will:

• Research and generate your own ideas
• Evaluate your own work and reflect on the processes and techniques used
• Continuously develop your skills and refine your work
• Learn how to analyse visual language in historical art, movements and designers
• Analyse the effectiveness of symbolism across different mediums
• Depict the meaning of historical and contemporary art through critical analysis
• Understand how composition, colour, texture, direction, shapes and patterns create meaning throughout your own work
• Create specialist art based on a project proposal and respond to a set theme

At the end of the year, the college hosts an annual ‘end of year exhibition’ which includes a fantastic fashion show and an art exhibition for students to showcase their designs. Students will also benefit from several visits to London galleries and local workshops that support the vocational context of this qualification.

You will be allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred. You can purchase more printing credits on our online store, which can be found here. As part of their course, students will also visit local workshops and London art galleries.

This qualification earns valuable UCAS points, helping you take the next step towards university or higher education. Students can progress into many relevant courses in higher education, including BA (Hons) in product design, fine art, fashion design, graphic design, photography or games design.
