Level 1 Functional Skills Qualification in Maths

Our Functional Skills courses equip you with real-world knowledge and practical problem-solving skills that employers value. Whether you’re aiming for a new job, looking to progress in your career, or preparing for further technical training, this course aims to provide you with the qualifications you need to progress further in your career.

Students must have been a UK resident for the last 3 years and they must be aged 19 and over. There are no formal academic requirements for this qualification.

To enrol onto this course, you will need proof of your UK passport or your government share code.

This course is available free of charge to you if:

• You are a UK Resident 
• You have not achieved a grade 4 or above in GCSE English
• You meet the suitability requirements set out by the Course Lecturer at assessment

At Level 1, you’ll confidently work with:

• Use simple worded formulas
• Multiply and divide whole numbers and decimals
• Read, write, order and compare common fractions and mixed numbers
• Find fractions of amounts and measurements
• Work with decimals up to three decimal places, including adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing
• Round numbers to whole numbers or one/two decimal places
• Calculate percentage changes and averages
• Estimate answers involving fractions and decimals
• Understand and convert between fractions, decimals and percentages
• Calculate the area of simple shapes
• Interpret plans and calculate angles

Upon successful completion of the Level 1 functional skills certificate, learners can progress onto the Level 2 qualification, further building on their foundational knowledge and abilities.
