Course overview
The level 2 Certificate in Principles of Business Administration will help you develop the key skills and qualities required to work in a business environment. You will learn practical administrative skills and build your customer service abilities, with a focus on developing your confidence, teamwork and communication in a workplace setting.
This course is hosted online. No formal qualifications are required to enrol onto this course, but for the best chance of success, we recommend that students begin their studies with a good standard of English and maths.

What you'll learn
- Develop a range of administrative support tasks from organising meetings, travel and booking accommodation
- Understand the differences between different types of meetings
- Learn professional skills such as managing and co-ordinating electronic diary systems
- Build your customer service skills in a business environment
- Learn how to produce and format a range of business documents, including minutes, agenda, memos, letters and presentations
- Understand the importance of version control, authorisation, data protection, copyright and intellectual property legislation when preparing a business document
- Discover different types of information and distribution channels used in business organisations
- Evaluate your business communication skills
- Develop your professional manner as you learn about body language and tone of voice
- Recognise the differences between private, public and voluntary sectors
- Learn about models of analysis, such as SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) and PESTLE (political, economic, social, technological, legal and environment)
- Refine your teamworking skills and develop conflict management techniques
This course is assessed through a range of tasks and coursework that you will be set throughout your qualification.
Career Pathways
Students who achieve this qualification can progress onto a number of level 3 and 4 qualifications. There are also opportunities to internally progress onto a level 3 apprenticeship in Business Administration at the college. You may also consider entry-level business administration roles if you would like to join the workforce.
