Course overview
The level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy builds on the underpinning knowledge of the Level 2 certificate. You will continue to build and develop your skills in a professional salon environment, focusing on a range of beauty treatments from: manicures, pedicures, waxing treatments and several make-up looks.
Your study programme will consist of:
- Your chosen technical qualification
- GCSE English and maths if you are yet to achieve a grade 4 or above
- Personal Development sessions which focus on developing work-ready skills (such as CV writing), independent life skills (such as money management) and personal, social and professional growth.
- Work experience or industry placement (course dependent)

The minimum entry requirements for this course includes GCSE English and maths (grade 3-4) or Level 2 Functional Skills. Those who do not achieve a grade 4 in English or maths will be required to study this alongside their course.

- Learn consultation techniques and develop your effective communication skills when working with salon clients
- Know how to select products, tools and equipment to suit your clients needs, skin type and conditions
- Learn how to carry out a detailed skin analysis
- Give aftercare advice and understand how factors such as ageing, lifestyle and the environment can affect the condition of different skin types
- Learn key anatomy, including the lymphatic system of the head, neck and shoulders
- Develop your sales skills by accurately promoting products and services to your client base
- Learn how to consult, prepare and provide: waxing treatments, manicures, pedicures and makeup looks
- Develop your skills in creating daily make-up looks, evening looks and special occasion make-up
- Consult and prepare eyelash and eyebrow treatments, from waxing, perming, semi-permanent make-up and threading
- Evaluate and feedback on the efficiency and effectiveness of your own work
- Carry out reception duties, take payments and book appointments
You will be assessed throughout your course with practical and online exams.
Our hair and beauty students benefit from our professional training salons, located in Weybridge and Ashford. In Weybridge the salon is an integral part of the college community and in Ashford the salon has a prime, High Street location, both of which are open to the public and offer a professional training environment for students to develop the skills they need for the industry.
There is also a work based element of this course which will prepare you for employment in the industry. You will also have the opportunity to take part in hair and beauty competitions. All students are expected to wear the salon’s uniform and present themselves in a professional manner.
What you'll need
Students are required to purchase and wear the salon’s uniform. Upon enrolment, you will be advised on how and where to purchase any uniform you may need. Students are also allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred. You can purchase more printing credits on our online store, which can be found here.
