Level 2 Diploma In Women’s Hairdressing

The level 2 diploma in hairdressing provides all the essential knowledge you may need to start your career as a junior hair stylist. You will focus on learning and developing key occupational skills, providing a solid foundation for employment. 

All learners are given the opportunity to thrive in our professional training salons, working their way up to work with real clients. Students are also given the opportunity to participate in hair and beauty competitions with other local colleges, boosting their portfolio of skills.

Your study programme will consist of: 

• Your chosen technical qualification
• GCSE English and maths if you are yet to achieve a grade 4 or above
• Personal Development sessions which focus on developing work-ready skills (such as CV writing), independent life skills (such as money management) and personal, social and professional growth. 
• Work experience or industry placement (course dependent)

The minimum entry requirements for this course includes GCSE English and maths (grade 3-4) or Level 2 Functional Skills. Those who do not achieve a grade 4 in English or maths will be required to study this alongside their course.

• Explore career opportunities and occupational roles within the hair industry
• Understand good working practices in salon environments and uphold professional standards in the work place
• Deepen your understanding of health and safety procedures, conduct risk assessments and understand the importance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and hygienic working practices
• Learn how to consult and advise clients on their treatments, styling and aftercare
• Discover different hair types and hair structures 
• Develop your massage techniques when shampooing and conditioning different lengths and densities of hair
• Build your confidence and communication skills
• Learn how to promote services and products to your clientele
• Improve your skills and learn a range of cutting techniques, from layering to free hand cutting
• Evaluate the accuracy of your own work
• Learn how to lighten and colour different hair types with a wide range of application methods, products and tools
•  Understand how to consult, prepare and advise a perm and learn how to neutralise hair
• Learn a range of styling techniques and working methods, such as back combing, blow-drying, curling, waving, straightening, pin curling and much more!

Our hair and beauty students benefit from our professional training salons, located in Weybridge and Ashford. In Weybridge the salon is an integral part of the college community and in Ashford the salon has a prime, High Street location, both of which are open to the public and offer a professional training environment for students to develop the skills they need for the industry.

You will be continuously assessed throughout your course with practical and online exams.

This course takes place in our professional, client-facing training salons, located in Ashford and Weybridge. You will have the opportunity to work with the general public and provide treatments to real clients, therefore purchasing the salon’s uniform is required. Upon enrolment, you will be advised on how and where to purchase this to start your course.

Students are also allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred. You can purchase more printing credits on our online store, which can be found here.

Learners who achieve this qualification can progress onto the level 3 Diploma in hairdressing here at the college. Alternatively, you may consider applying for an apprenticeship or employment opportunities as a junior stylist or hairdresser at a local salon.
