Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship

The broad purpose of this apprenticeship is to work and interact directly with children on a day to day basis supporting the planning and delivery of activities that support children’s development. An EYP (Early Years Practitioner) works as part of a professional team ensuring the welfare and care for children under the guidance and supervision of an Early Years Educator, teacher or other suitably qualified professional in the Early Years Workforce.

In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with parents, children, colleagues and wider multi agency professionals and partners such as health visitors, social workers and speech and language therapists. Individuals will undergo all checks as per the EYFS requirements to ensure suitability to work with children.

• Ages 16–18: Applicants without a Grade 4 in English and maths will be required to study Functional Skills during the program.
• Ages 19+: Adults are exempt from studying Functional Skills, subject to employer agreement.

• Plan and deliver fun and educational activities with the children
• Play alongside and with children to support their play
• Contribute to children’s records through observation
• Assist with the supervision of children at rest and meal times
• Contribute to creating a safe, happy environment for the children
• Ensure the play area is clean and tidy at all times
• Work alongside outside agencies in supporting the children

You will be continually assessed throughout your training by a nominated Assessor. Most of the assessment will take place in the workplace to complete a portfolio of evidence, you will also take external and internal examinations for your functional skills (if required). Your progress will be reviewed regularly and achievable targets set, to ensure you complete your apprenticeship on time.

Guidance on any equipment or uniform required for this role will be provided by your employer. At the college, you will be allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred. You can purchase more printing credits on our online store, which can be found here. 

All employees within this occupation would require an advanced DBS check.

Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship, you may be interested in continuing your education at university or you may wish to progress onto a level 3 qualification. Many apprentices will also continue their education and employment through their apprenticeship employer.
