Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles

This advanced qualification equips learners with the expertise to maintain and repair light vehicles, including those with complex electronic systems. It covers advanced diagnostics, engine management and vehicle performance optimisation. Learners will gain practical experience in servicing and repairing high-tech components, making them highly skilled professionals in the automotive industry.

• Your chosen technical qualification
• GCSE English and maths if you are yet to achieve a grade 4 or above
• Personal Development sessions which focus on developing work-ready skills (such as CV writing), independent life skills (such as money management) and personal, social and professional growth. 
• Work experience or industry placement (course dependent)

To qualify for this course, you will need a minimum of: 2 GCSEs at grade 4-9 (including English and maths) and a Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.

• Understand the importance of PPE and good health and safety practices in an automotive environment
• Develop your effective communication skills when working with colleagues and customers
• Practise use of hand tools and learn how to maintain them in the workshop
• Gain a better insight into the roles and responsibilities available in the automotive industry
• Prepare light vehicles by following safe work procedures
• Develop your ability to diagnose and repair engine faults
• Repair and replace damaged components to meet legal requirements
• Understand how to work safely when carrying out light vehicle chassis diagnostics and repairs
• Learn how to diagnose and repair mechanical engines, ignition and fuel systems, valve mechanisms and many other vehicle components
• Put theory into practise as you identify the engineering principles related to light vehicle engine systems
• Broaden your knowledge on how to diagnose and repair gearboxes, hubs and bearings, driveline shafts, clutches, differentials and final drive units.
• Understand how to dispose of waste materials and their environmental impact
• Learn how to diagnose and rectify electrical system faults and gain a better insight into the principles of electronic communication systems in light vehicles

Upon successful completion of this course, students can apply to an apprenticeship at a local garage or they can enter employment as a motor vehicle service technician or an autocare technician.
