Level 3 T Level in Maintenance, Installation and Repair for Engineering and Manufacturing
This exciting qualification is the perfect introduction to Engineering and Manufacturing and is designed to help you choose a specific pathway once you have a taste of the industry.
Course overview
This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16-19-years old who wish to work in the Mechanical engineering or the manufacturing industry. You will learn the theoretical and practical knowledge that is integral to the sector. You will also take part in a 45 day work placement where you will develop your practical skills in the workplace, providing you with the key experience that employers look for.
Your study programme will consist of:
- Your chosen technical qualification
- GCSE English and maths if you are yet to achieve a grade 4 or above
- Personal Development sessions which focus on developing work-ready skills (such as CV writing), independent life skills (such as money management) and personal, social and professional growth.
- Work experience or industry placement (course dependent)

To qualify for this course, you will need a minimum of: 4 GCSEs at grade 4-9 (including English and maths) or a Level 2 T Level in Maintenance, Installation and Repair for Engineering and Manufacturing.

- Explore linear and iterative design processes and how to test the effectiveness of a product
- Gain a greater insight into the roles and responsibilities involved in the maintenance and manufacturing sector
- Understand the importance of CAM systems and automation in manufacturing
- Learn how to interpret and create engineering drawings and plans
- Improve your maths and problem solving skills
- Understand core engineering principles including forces and motion, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, chemical engineering and material properties
- Learn the effects of heat and surface treatments and the causes of material failure
- Develop your knowledge of Newton’s three laws of motion and its applications
- Understand the basic principles of electricity and circuit networks
- Understand the core components of mechatronic systems and their uses
- Delve into key legislation on how to work safely in engineering environments
- Gain a better insight into the operation of engineering organisations and businesses
- Choose your specialism: Mechanical Engineering or Light and Electric Vehicles
You will also complete a 45 day work placement as part of this course, gaining real-world experience and gaining the opportunity to practise your technical skills.
This course is assessed through practical assessments and written exams. You will also be asked to complete an employer set project during your placement.
Career Pathways
After successful completion of the level 3 T Level in maintenance, installation and repair for engineering, you can apply for entry level roles in the engineering industry. You may also consider applying for an apprenticeship or entering higher education and continuing to develop your knowledge at university.
