Course overview
Develop strong reading, writing and communication skills as you explore a range of challenging texts from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. Throughout the course, you will strengthen your critical thinking, analysis and evaluation skills by comparing texts, interpreting writers’ choices and presenting your own ideas with confidence. You’ll also build a greater understanding of Standard English, vocabulary, grammar and spoken language.
Before enrolling, students are required to attend an interview to ensure they fulfil the suitability requirements which is normally a grade 3 (or legacy D grade) in GCSE English and Students with lower than grade 3 should study and successfully complete Functional Skills English up to Level 1 before progressing on this course.
The results achieved in the screening test will help to decide the most suitable point of entry for achieving your goal in English.
Fees for GCSE Maths and GCSE English only apply to adults who do not qualify for government funding.
If you have achieved a grade 4 or below, your course will be fully funded.

Throughout this course, you will continuously be assessed, demonstrating and evaluating your skills. At the end of the course, you will be assessed through two exams which are externally marked.
