Level 2 Certificate in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles

This introductory course aims to provide learners with a greater insight into the motor vehicle and mechanics industry, offering hands-on practicals and comprehensive learning. You’ll learn how to master your tools, fulfil routine maintenance on light vehicles and abide by health and safety practices in the workplace.

Your study programme will consist of:

• Your chosen technical qualification
• GCSE English and maths if you are yet to achieve a grade 4 or above
• Personal Development sessions which focus on developing work-ready skills (such as CV writing), independent life skills (such as money management) and personal, social and professional growth.
• Work experience or industry placement (course dependent)

The minimum entry requirements for this course includes GCSE English or maths (grade 0-3), or a Level 1 Functional Skills. Those who do not achieve a grade 4 in English or maths will be required to study this alongside their course. 

• Develop your understanding of health and safety in the workplace
• Learn which tools and materials are required when constructing, fitting, modifying or repairing vehicles and their components
• Understand how to apply automotive engineering and fitting principles when working on a vehicle
• Know the importance of PPE and their place in the workshop
• Learn effective housekeeping skills and procedures to keep the workshops and environment safe
• Gain insight into the main roles and pathways within the automotive industry
• Learn how to carry out routine maintenance and servicing of light vehicles, supported by legal requirements and common maintenance procedures
• Carry out vehicle adjustments, replace vehicle components and compare vehicles accurately against vehicle specifications

In advance of the course starting students will need to purchase their personal protective equipment (PPE). This will consist of Steel or composite toe safety shoes and overalls. Guidance on this will be provided during enrolment.

You will also be expected to have your own pencil case, with the relevant equipment for this course, this includes: pens, pencils, ruler, protractor, compass, eraser, lined paper and a ring binder.

You will be allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred. You can purchase more printing credits on our online store, which can be found here.

Upon the successful completion of this qualification, learners may progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles here at the college. Learners may also be interested in applying for an apprenticeship at a local garage or can find entry level roles as a junior auto care technician or motor vehicle service technician.
