Level 2 Apprenticeship in Site Carpentry

Due to the rising demand for housing, the construction industry has a growing demand for carpenters and joiners to help meet societal needs.This qualification focuses on working with wood-based materials to create and install building components. You will learn the key skills and attitudes required of the construction industry whilst gaining a greater insight into what it takes to work as a Site Carpenter.

• Ages 16–18: Applicants without a Grade 4 in English and maths will be required to study Functional Skills during the program.
• Ages 19+: Exempt from studying Functional Skills, subject to employer agreement.

• Learn how to cut and build a variety of structures, from doors, straight staircases, wall and floor units
• Learn how to erect structural carpentry and roof structures 
• Build your professional communication and teamwork skills
• Interact with a variety of other trades, including bricklayers, plasters, plumbers, site managements, architects, designers and customers
• Understand how to use tools and machinery in a safe manner
• Explore and understand health and safety restrictions and regulations
• Build components from a set plan and specification

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will be assessed through a variety of methods, including a multiple choice test, a 12 hour practical assessment and an interview with an independent assessor who will assess your portfolio of evidence that you will collate throughout the duration of your apprenticeship. 

In advance of starting this apprenticeship, students will need to purchase their  own personal protective equipment (PPE). This will consist of Steel or composite toe safety shoes and overalls. Guidance on this will be provided by your employer. 

At the college, you will be allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred. You can purchase more printing credits on our online store, which can be found here.

Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship, you may be interested in continuing your education at university or you may wish to progress onto a level 3 qualification. Many apprentices will also continue their education and employment through their apprenticeship employer.
