Level 2 Autocare Technician Apprenticeship
Master modern vehicle maintenance through a hands-on apprenticeship covering diagnostic troubleshooting, full-service inspections, electronic system repairs, and cutting-edge hybrid and electric engine technologies.
Course overview
This comprehensive apprenticeship equips you with the practical skills needed for a successful career as an automotive technician. You will learn to use advanced diagnostic tools to pinpoint and resolve vehicle faults. You will test vehicle components and gain hands-on experience maintaining intricate electronic and onboard entertainment systems. You will also work with traditional, hybrid and electric engines.
- Ages 16–18: Applicants without a Grade 4 in English and maths will be required to study Functional Skills during the program.
- Ages 19+: Adults are exempt from studying Functional Skills, subject to employer agreement.

What you'll learn
- Use of diagnostic equipment to identify vehicle faults
- Testing of parts and systems to ensure correct working
- Following checklists to ensure all critical parts of vehicles are examined
- Carrying out a bumper-to-bumper overview, service, and inspection
- Maintenance of electronic systems, including onboard entertainment systems
- Completion of legible and accurate paperwork for the customers and centre’s records
- Maintenance of a clean and tidy work environment
- Work with a wide range of products including traditional, hybrid and electronic engines
What you'll need
In advance of starting this apprenticeship, students will need to purchase their own personal protective equipment (PPE). This will consist of Steel or composite toe safety shoes and overalls. Guidance on this will be provided by your employer.
At the college, you will be allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred. You can purchase more printing credits on our online store, which can be found here.
Career Pathways
Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship, you may be interested in continuing your education at university or you may wish to progress onto a level 3 qualification. Many apprentices will also continue their education and employment through their apprenticeship employer.
