About this course

This course looks to provide you with specialised skills and knowledge in fault rectification and diagnostics, engineering design, motorsport preparation and inspection as well as many more exciting areas of motor vehicle and motorsport engineering.

The diploma is equivalent to two A-Levels and the Extended Diploma is equivalent to three. This course provides the ideal stepping stone into Higher Education programmes or employment.

Duration: 1 Year for Subsidiary Diploma, 2 years for Extended Diploma

Our excellent engineering facilities comprise several workshops including Aeroplane hanger (including a helicopter rig!) computer facilities and study areas.

6 of the units below form the diploma qualification and all 11 form the extended diploma qualification.

Who is the course suitable for?

Those who want to learn the skills to become a motor vehicle/motorsport engineer in a race team or retail motor industry company.

How is the course assessed?

  • All units on the main programme are assessed through written assignments and phase tests for which you will be able to achieve pass, merit and distinction grades.

Are there any extra costs?

  • Pens, pencils, ruler, protractor, compass, eraser, line paper, scientific calculator and a ring binder
  • Steel or composite toe safety shoes or boots (can be arranged by Brooklands College)
  • One piece Brooklands College Engineering Overalls (available on enrolment)
  • Safety glasses.

Cost for boots and overalls approximately £30.

All learners materials - £50

Students are allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred.

Entry Requirements

What qualifications will I need?

5 GCSE passes at grade 4 or above, ideally including English and Maths (some subject areas may require higher grades than grade 4 in a specific subject), or for progressing students successful achievement of a level 2 vocational qualification.

Next Steps

This qualification provides UCAS points for entry into Higher Education. Depending on your overall grade for the qualification you would be in a position to apply through UCAS for a place at a University, typically on an Engineering course of your choosing.

Equally you could apply through UCAS to stay on at Brooklands College to study on the Foundation Degree in Motorsport Engineering in either a full or part-time format. If you would like to go out to employment at this stage then the world is your oyster. You will be a well-qualified motor vehicle/motorsport engineer that would be valued at any race team or retail motor industry company.
