Apprenticeships

What is an Apprenticeship?

Do you want to kick-start your career? An apprenticeship could be the answer. They offer an alternative to traditional sixth form and college routes, meaning you’ll be working and earning a wage while getting qualified.

While you are on an apprenticeship you will:

  1. Have a job and earn a wage
  2. Gain nationally recognised qualifications
  3. Gain real industry experience
  4. Receive holiday pay

During your apprenticeship, you’ll spend most of the week at work learning practical skills, and attend college one day a week to learn the theory side of your job. You’ll also gain other transferable workplace skills such as maths, English, ICT and communication. We will support both you and your employer throughout your training, which usually lasts between one and two years. When you complete your apprenticeship, you’ll have gained nationally recognised qualifications and the experience and the skills you’ll need to succeed in your chosen career. We have Apprenticeships at Level 2, 3 and 4 and the level you study at will depend on your existing qualifications and experience.

Apprenticeships – How to Apply

There are two main ways to become an Apprentice. You can either find a job and become an Apprentice through your company/employer, or we’ll help you find an Apprenticeship in the area of your choice.

Many of our apprenticeship programmes fill quickly, so please make sure you call the Apprenticeship Team or contact them as soon as you know that this is an area you would like to consider.

If you already have an employer:

Email: apprenticeshipteam@brooklands.ac.uk – make sure you include details of your job and employer. We will then invite you to an interview and assessment at the College, before visiting your employer to complete a health and safety and employment check. To be eligible for an apprenticeship, you need to be in full-time employment.

If you do not have an employer:

Search through our apprenticeship courses, and then complete this form.

Once we have further details we will invite you in to an interview and assessment session to explain how the process works.

You will need to visit our Apprenticeship Vacancies where employers advertise their vacancies for apprentices. If you find a vacancy you like, you can apply to it directly. Once you have completed the form, you will be kept up to date on new vacancies.
