BTC Racing prepare for the 2026 season

Brooklands Technical College Racing (BTCR) heads into its second season in the Student Motorsport Competition with one clear objective: a podium finish.

After a debut year full of learning, the team showed strong progress, recovering from a DNF in its first race at Oulton Park to finishing every subsequent round. The season concluded with a standout fifth in class finish at Silverstone, securing ninth overall in the SMo class and fourth in the CityCar Cup novice standings.

For 2026, BTCR has evolved both on and off the track. The team now runs a two car entry and introduces a refreshed driver line up, welcoming Luke Power and George Antoniou.

Luke joins as a developing driver, selected through a student led decision process that reflects the team’s core values. As Team Principal Marios Katzis explained: “There were some seasoned professionals amongst the drivers that would have guaranteed us a podium, but I put it to the team and explained that Luke, who had only started last year, wanted to learn and develop himself as well as help develop the team.”

George Antoniou brings extensive engineering expertise and currently works at McLaren Automotive as a Transmission and Driveline Manager. A former Brooklands student, he returns to begin his racing journey with BTCR.

Behind the scenes, BTCR has made major operational improvements following its first season experience.

“We have our new awnings now so each car will have its own garage,” said Marios. “We’ve also got the use of our college van which we’re going to now use for motorsport and that will be our workshop where we’ll store all our tools, toolboxes and spares. We have also launched a range of merchandise that our fans can purchase.

“Last year was a huge learning curve for us but this year we’re going pro.”

At the heart of the race weekend operation is Marios, alongside drivers George Antoniou (Racing No. 14) and Luke Power (Racing No. 22). They are supported trackside by a dedicated group of learners and staff, including Errol Ince, Kate Veryard, Clair Priest and Chris Wigmore, whose hands on contribution has been key to the physical preparation of the cars.

Reflecting on the effort behind the scenes, Marios added: “If we don’t get on the podium this year, I think it will be a real shame for the students and all their hard work. They’ve been coming in at weekends and working on the cars. It’s now down to the drivers to do their bit and repay the students because they have worked non stop.”

With a stronger structure, improved resources and a motivated driver line up, BTCR enters the 2026 season ready to take the next step.

The new season begins at Brands Hatch this weekend 11th – 12th April.
