Over the past month, Brooklands Technical College has been excited to host a Creative Writing Competition, led by English Lecturer and Creative Writing Lead Bradley Gray. In that time, many entries were submitted, showcasing a multitude of diverse and fantastic creations from our student body. Last week, we announced the winners of the competition, who are listed below, alongside a logline of their story.
1st: Maybe Death Has the Answer by Hadi Moghrabi: “A man awaiting execution reflects on his life, convincing himself his actions were driven by love, only to uncover the painful truth that his own flaws caused irreversible harm. In his final moments, he is left questioning whether he was ever truly good, or simply a monster all along”.
2nd: Final Endeavour by Saleem Zafar: “Two opposite brothers set out to resolve an old feud, this is the snippet of an epic set over 17 years, a story which addresses the imbalance of power in society and the heavy tolling ruling an empire takes on those willing to lead”.
3rd: Valeria Lives by McKenzie Clark: “Andrew Avion awakes on a normal morning to find that reality isn’t quite what it seems…. Find out more in this story chock-full of horror, paranoia and existential dread!!”
As well as these fantastic entries, we also had stellar submissions from the following students;
Toho Craft by Matthew Obura: A riveting and visually excellent story spanning billions of years that takes place in the world of the King of the Monsters, Godzilla.
Doctor Who: The Whitechapel Murders by Samuel Liddell; 1888 London. The Doctor and his trusty companion find themselves in a battle of wits against history’s most notorious serial killer, but not everything is what it seems in the smoky streets of Whitechapel.
As an initiative set up by English Lecturer Bradley Gray, Brooklands Technical College is looking develop an engaging and enrichment Creative Arts extra-curricular programme, and this competition is the first step in many in order to achieve that goal.
