About this course
At Level 1, you’ll confidently work with:
- Use simple worded formulaes
- Multiply and divide whole numbers and decimals
- Read, write, order and compare common fractions and mixed numbers
- Find fractions of amounts and measurements
- Work with decimals up to three decimal places, including adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing
- Round numbers to whole numbers or one/two decimal places
- Calculate percentage changes and averages
- Estimate answers involving fractions and decimals
- Understand and convert between fractions, decimals and percentages
- Calculate the area of simple shapes
- Interpret plans and calculate angles
Once complete, learners can progress onto the Level 2 qualification.

What will the course involve?
At Level 1, learners will be able to:
- Read, understand and use mathematical terms and formulae
- Solve straightforward problems
- Apply learned knowledge accurately
- Analyse and interpret answers in different contexts
- Present answers clearly, using simple reasoning and explanations in context

What qualifications will I need?
Students must have been a UK resident for the last 3 years and they must be age 19 and over. There are no formal academic requirements for this qualification.
