Level 1 Functional Skills Qualifications in Maths

About this course

At Level 1, you’ll confidently work with:

• Use simple worded formulaes
• Multiply and divide whole numbers and decimals
• Read, write, order and compare common fractions and mixed numbers
• Find fractions of amounts and measurements
• Work with decimals up to three decimal places, including adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing
• Round numbers to whole numbers or one/two decimal places
• Calculate percentage changes and averages
• Estimate answers involving fractions and decimals
• Understand and convert between fractions, decimals and percentages
• Calculate the area of simple shapes
• Interpret plans and calculate angles

Once complete, learners can progress onto the Level 2 qualification.

What will the course involve?

At Level 1, learners will be able to:

• Read, understand and use mathematical terms and formulae
• Solve straightforward problems
• Apply learned knowledge accurately
• Analyse and interpret answers in different contexts
• Present answers clearly, using simple reasoning and explanations in context

What qualifications will I need?

Students must have been a UK resident for the last 3 years and they must be age 19 and over. There are no formal academic requirements for this qualification.
