This is a practical course which provides a sound base of art & design skills and knowledge. It will enhance self-confidence and impart an understanding of the career demands and opportunities within the art and design industry. Workshop sessions introduce you to materials, processes and technical skills that underpin graphic design and packaging, animation and digital methods of production, surface pattern design, fashion design, 3D and product design, architecture design, drawing and painting, illustration and contextual research. The course is further enhanced with trips and visits to museums and galleries, competitions and live briefs and work experience.
Careers related to Design are really popular as it impacts on everything we see around us from adverts to shop window displays to websites. Our courses will help you find where your art and design skills lie and you will study in our attractive purpose built studios.
Facilities include specialist studios and workshops in Textiles, Graphic Design, 3D/Sculpture, Fine Art, Printmaking, Photography and a very contemporary Apple Mac suite.
The annual end of year exhibition includes a fantastic fashion show and an art exhibition for students to showcase their designs. Our art and design courses have an excellent reputation and many of our students go on to gain places at the top universities or secure careers in the industry
This course is ideal if you enjoy art and design and prefer a more practical route of study.
All the units are internally assessed through project work.
You will need a USB stick. In addition there will be an annual voluntary studio contribution of £100. There are several visits to London galleries and local workshops made throughout the course to support the vocational context of the qualification. You will be allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred.
5 GCSE passes (including 1 GCSE at grade 4 or above ideally in an art related subject).
For progressing students a Level 1 vocational qualification in an art related subject.
You will also need to provide a portfolio of art and design work at interview. If you don’t have a portfolio you may be asked to complete a practical task to make sure the course is a good match for you.
Successful completion of this course can lead onto further study on the UAL L3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Art & Design or employment in a wide range of roles in the design industry.
Potential career options may include: Artist, Product Designer, Interiror Designer, Architect, Fashion Designer, or Photographer.
