About this course

This course is designed for students who want to develop practical skills in, and broaden their understanding of motor vehicle systems. You will work to recognised industry standards and obtain the underpinning knowledge and skills to prepare you for a career in this industry. The college has close links to motor vehicle companies and training exercises and conditions are similar to those experienced on site.

As part of your programme of study you will also attend tutorial and take part in work experience. It also gives the opportunity to learn how to develop others.

It allows studetns to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the automotive industry.

Where will I be studying?

The Brooklands name has a long association with the engineering industry and we’re very proud to continue the tradition through our wide range of engineering courses in well-equipped workshops.

Our excellent engineering facilities comprise several workshops including a rolling road and Motor Vehicle area, Aeroplane hanger (including a helicopter rig!) computer facilities and study areas.

Who is the course suitable for?

This course is an ideal step after having studied a motor vehicle qualification at level 1 and 2 and is designed to extend your knowledge of light vehicle maintenance and repair.

Level 3 is the industry minimum expecation for Automotive mechanics.

Are there any extra costs?

  • In advance of the course starting students will need to purchase their own Health and Safety equipment (Personal, Protective, Equipment). This will consist of Steel or composite toe safety shoes and overalls. Guidance on this will be provided during the application stage.
  • Pens, pencils, ruler, protractor, compass, eraser, line paper and a ring binder Students are allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred.

Level 2 City & Guilds / 5 GCSE passes including i GCSE at grade 4 or above
