About this course

The Level 2 Certificate in Sport is the perfect introduction to the sports industry, it develops key skills and knowledge around physical fitness, physiology, nutriton and planning & participating in sport events. 

Facilities

Where will I be studying?

We have a purpose built Gym and a brand new Sports Hall opening in 2026, where students on the Sports courses can develop their skills.

We also have a partnership with PureGym West Byfleet. Brooklands sport & fitness students will have multiple experiences through the year with PureGym West Byfleet to enhance their knowledge and skills while also offering opportunities for students work experience and employment.

Course Details

What modules are covered?

Learners can expect 3 mandatory units:

  • Participating in Sport
  • Outdoor and adventurous activities
  • Leading an outdoor activity session

This course combines 3 core mandatory units with a selection of optional units, allowing students to shape their studies around their interests and career goals.

Optional topics include:

  • Physical fitness and injuries in sport
  • Psychology for sports performance 
  • Expedition experience 
  • Promote outdoor activities 
  • Planning and running a sports event 
  • Understanding business in sport 
  • Sports volunteering 
  • Work experience in the sports industry
  • Anatomy and physiology for exercise 
  • Introduction to healthy exercise and nutrition
  • Development of personal fitness through training 
  • Introduction to sports massage 
  • Factors affecting participation in sport and physical activity 
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate an activity session

Who is the course suitable for?

The course is aimed at learners who are passionate about health and fitness, who want to understand how the human body works and how they can help people to improve their lifestyle and fitness levels.

How is the course assessed?

You will build a portfolio of evidence throughout the course, allowing you to demonstrate your skills, knowledge and progress over time. This will include coursework and assignments that are set and marked by both internal and external moderators.

Entry Requirements

What qualifications will I need?

The minimum entry requirements for this course includes GCSE English or maths (grade 0-3), or a Level 1 Functional Skills. Those who do not achieve a grade 4 in English or maths will be required to study this alongside their course.
