This course develops knowledge and skills in fitness, coaching, outdoor activities, and the sports industry, preparing learners for progression to Level 3 or entry-level careers.
The Level 2 Diploma in Sport covers key areas such as sport, coaching, exercise, and health & fitness. It equips students with the essential knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to start a career in the sport, exercise, or health.
We have a purpose built Gym and a brand new Sports Hall opening in 2026, where students on the Sports courses can develop their skills.
We also have a partnership with PureGym West Byfleet. Brooklands sport & fitness students will have multiple experiences through the year with PureGym West Byfleet to enhance their knowledge and skills while also offering opportunities for students work experience and employment.
Learners can tailor their qualification by choosing one of four exciting pathways:
Sport, Exercise & Fitness – focusing on anatomy, nutrition, fitness and performance.
Outdoors – specialising in outdoor activities, adventure, and expedition skills.
Working in Sport – preparing for careers in the sport and leisure industry.
Sports Coaching – developing coaching skills, tactical awareness and leadership.
Each pathway combines 3 core mandatory units with a selection of optional units, allowing students to shape their studies around their interests and career goals. Optional topics include psychology, event planning, performance analysis, sports volunteering, business in sport, personal fitness, and more.
The course is aimed at learners who are passionate about health and fitness, who want to understand how the human body works and how they can help people to improve their lifestyle and fitness levels.
There are a wide range of assessment methods to match the knowledge, skills and competencies required of students entering the Sport & Fitness industry or Higher education, which include coursework and assignments that are set and marked by both internal and external moderators.
The minimum entry requirements for this course includes GCSE English and maths (grade 3-4) or Level 2 Functional Skills. Those who do not achieve a grade 4 in English or maths will be required to study this alongside their course.
