Art & Design students explore creative pathways in London

This term, our Art and Design students have had the opportunity to take part in two inspiring enrichment visits, giving them valuable insight into both creative careers and the wider art world.

At Theatre Royal Drury Lane, students experienced a behind the scenes tour linked to the West End production of Hercules. They explored areas such as lighting, sound, wardrobe, puppetry, stage management and technical production, gaining a real sense of how many different creative pathways exist within one production. It was an exciting opportunity for students to see how their skills could translate into future careers.

Students also had the exciting opportunity to visit Tate Britain in London as part of their coursework. Travelling together as a group, they explored the galleries and engaged directly with significant works of art before selecting pieces to study through observational sketching.

Seeing artwork first hand gave students a deeper understanding of the cultural and historical context behind the work, helping them connect their own practice to established artists and develop greater confidence in their ideas and responses.

Both visits were highly engaging and have supported students in developing their creative thinking, confidence and awareness of future opportunities.

Harry Thompson, one of our students and a keen photographer, joined both visits to gain work experience. He captured a range of images from the trips, providing valuable content that can now be used to promote student enrichment and creative opportunities across the college. Many thanks to Harry for providing such wonderful photos, which can be seen below!
