I had the pleasure of chatting to one of our graduates, Jack Mulcahy, earlier today. Jack completed a 2 year Diploma in Sport Fitness and Personal training last year and is going from strength to strength.
Jack is a dedicated and hard working young man, getting up in the early hours to excel in 2 jobs and then find time to study
He is a Fitness Consultant at BXR London, the world’s first high-end boxing-themed gym in Marylebone, W1;
A Personal Trainer at the exclusive St George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club;
And, he has just completed his first year St Mary’s University in Twickenham studying a Strength and Conditioning Science Degree BSc.
Have you always been into sports and fitness?
“I always played some sports, but a couple of years ago I started suffering with my mental health and I found that fitness training and exercising really helped with my mental wellbeing. I was in a better place when I was training and that is something I wanted to continue working on for myself and for others.”
Why did you choose Brooklands College?
“My Dad called up one day and we spoke to one of the tutors, Ben, on the phone. We chatted for over 20 minutes and he dedicated so much time to us it just felt like the right place to go.”
How did the course help you?
“What I really liked about the course is that although it is full time, it is not every day of the week. That gave me opportunities to work, which obviously helps financially, but also gave me plenty of work experience. And the fact that you gain Level 3 diploma being fully qualified to work as a personal trainer, was perfect for me.”
Without the qualification I achieved at Brooklands College, I wouldn’t have the job I have now.
My Brooklands Experience
“I really enjoyed the course. Ben and James were great tutors and supported us a lot. There was a good group of students and even when some felt like they couldn’t go on the tutors kept us all going.”
What are your next steps?
“I have just finished my first year doing an Undergraduate degree in Strength and Conditioning Science Degree BSc at St Mary’s University, Twickenham. It’s a 3 year course so I will be busy do that for a while.
I have two great jobs working with high end, well-known clients including business executives and sports men and women. I recently completed a block of strength and conditioning training for a Chelsea U21 football player.”
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I want to continue learning and training and providing the best personal fitness service I can. I want to build by social media presence and one day become a well-known mental health and fitness instructor for celebrities and high-profile clients in London and beyond.
