NDT technician Mark Richards shares his experience studying at Brooklands Technical College

On Thursday 5th June, our engineering students had the exciting opportunity to hear first-hand from industry professional Mark Richards, an NDT Technician at Alpine F1 and alumnus of Brooklands Technical College, who delivered an insightful talk about his career in formula one engineering.

Mark shared his personal career journey, explaining how he entered the field, starting with a National Diploma and working his way through the ranks as a trainee CNC machinist. This experience helped him develop the technical skills that later led him to a new opportunity into Non-Destructive Testing at Mercedes. While progressing in his career, Mark made the decision to return to education and complete his Level 6 BEng (Hons) in Motorsport Technology at Brooklands Technical College.

By explaining how his career progressed to the students, Mark highlighted the different routes available for those interested in working in engineering. Mark also outlined what an NDT technician does on a day-to-day basis, from inspecting components and materials to ensuring the safety of Formula One drivers. Students gained valuable insight into the range of industries NDT supports and the strong career prospects available within the sector.
