Computing students try their hand at cryptography

Level 3 Computing students visited Surrey University to try their hand at cryptography and look at the core fundamentals of programming in Python through a range of practical activities.

There were several challenges set where the students had to battle against the clock to unlock boxes and briefcases using algorithms and critical thinking; winning prizes and finding clues to solve future puzzles. “The day just got better as it went on. The activities were interesting and it was fun to work in a group to solve puzzles and use code”.

The groups worked on codebreaking hieroglyphs, Morse code and then built their own variations of encryption within Python. The day was an excellent experience for all involved.
