Throughout December 2020, Brooklands College celebrated the festive season with a variety of activities. This was especially welcomed after a challenging year for the nation, therefore the college aimed to end the year positively by imparting a little cheerful spirit to staff and students.
Christmas At Brooklands commenced with the new college hangout Brooks Cafe serving ‘Winter Warmer’ lunch specials every day of the month together with festive hot drinks.
The #12DaysOfChristmas quiz, created by our LRC team, counted down to Christmas Eve each morning across social media and the LRC Google Classroom. This fun festive quiz was free for college members and the general public to play along at their leisure with answers revealed each Friday.
7-11th December saw staff and students participating in Christmas Jumper Week with donations being made to Save The Children.
This was also tied together with a best dressed / best selfie competition which brought on lots of fun and laughs to all. One staff member, Progression Mentor Kathryn, went above and beyond by spreading joy around the campus dressed up as The Grinch – she was the winner of the college competition and received a box of chocolates.
To round off the festive celebrations, on 16th December our Weybridge campus hosted a day of cheer once again raising money for Save The Children. Staff and students were able to participate in the ‘Christmas Fitness Cracker’, an exercise class with a festive twist run by our Sport & Uniformed Public Services students. College members of all areas also came together to put on a COVID-friendly Christmas market for staff and students on this day. This was a lovely occasion with festive music, minigames, tasty food from Brooks Cafe as well as various stalls of crafts, books and cakes.
A total of £192 was raised for UK charity Save The Children during the Brooklands College festive activities. Every pound we raised will give children in the UK and around the world the chance to grow up healthy and happy, and change the future for good.
