About this course

The Level 2 City and Guilds Certificate and Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance is a very thorough motor vehicle course designed to give you an awareness of all of the major operating systems of a light motor vehicle. You will develop a clear understanding of the maintenance procedures required to maintain the systems and will work on a range of vehicles in our outstanding motor vehicle workshops to hone your skills.

As part of your programme of study you will also attend tutorial and take part in work experience.  All learners who do not have a GCSE Grade 4 or above in English and Mathematics will continue to study these subjects.

Our excellent engineering facilities comprise several workshops including Aeroplane hanger (including a helicopter rig!) computer facilities and study areas.

If you have already had a taste of motor vehicle courses through a school links course or have completed the Entry Level 3 City and Guilds Diploma in Vehicle Systems (3902-01), this course could be the right next step to develop your skills as a light vehicle mechanic.

Are there any extra costs?

  • In advance of the course starting students will need to purchase their own Health and Safety equipment (Personal, Protective, Equipment). This will consist of Steel or composite toe safety shoes and overalls. Guidance on this will be provided during the application stage.
  • Pens, pencils, ruler, protractor, compass, eraser, line paper and a ring binder Students are allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred.

Entry Requirements

What qualifications will I need?

GCSEs grade 3 – 1 (or entry Level 3 literacy and numeracy).

For pre 16s not entry requirements but it is essential that applicants have a keen interest in the industry and willingness to learn.

Next Steps

At the end of the qualification you will be interviewed by the course leaders and a decision will be made based on attendance, punctuality and achievement as to whether you can progress onto the Level 2 City and Guilds Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles.

Alternatively, you could progress into full-time employment in the Retail Motor Industry or aim for an apprenticeship position with a motor vehicle garage.
