Level 1 Preparation for Sport & Uniformed Protective Services

This course aims to provide students with a basic understanding of employment in the Sport, Leisure and Uniformed Public Services industries. The course will provide the requisite knowledge, skills and competencies for students to successfully transition on to the Level 2 Certificate the following year. The course also provides students with knowledge, skills and attitudes appropriate for employment. ​

About this course

The Gym & Fitness Centres industry was worth £1.7 billion in 2022 and since COVID has grown by 25.2%. The growth in this industry is largely driven by the low-cost gym sector, so we were delighted to strike a partnership with PureGym West Byfleet. Brooklands sport & fitness students will have multiple experiences through the year with PureGym West Byfleet to enhance their knowledge and skills while also offering opportunities for students work experience and employment.​

The Level 1 Preparation for Sport explores the interests of sport, coaching, exercise, and health & fitness. The course will provide the requisite knowledge, skills and competencies for students to successfully transition on to the Level 2 Certificate in Sport the following year. The course also provides students with knowledge, skills and attitudes appropriate for employment. ​

What modules are covered?

The modules on the course provide a good a range of knowledge, skills and attitudes ready for employment, and include:​

  • Careers in the Sport & Active Leisure Industry​

  • Health, Wellbeing & Sport​

  • Fitness Skills Development​

  • Personal Trainer Skills Development​

  • Self-employment in Sport & Physical Activity​

  • Nutrition for Physical Performance​

 

How is the course assessed?

There are a wide range of assessment methods to match the knowledge, skills and competencies required of students entering the Level 2 study, which include coursework and assignments that are set and marked by both internal and external moderators.
