This course helps to prepare you to work safely and with confidence in the construction industry with a focus on bricklaying and block work construction skills.
The purpose of this qualification is to equip students with the knowledge and understanding to progress to further training in Bricklaying at Level 2, and then to a job role in the Construction industry. This qualification provides students with a range of bricklaying skills and knowledge, alongside developing an understanding of Health and Safety requirements within the Construction industry.
You will work to recognised industrial standards and will gain the underpinning knowledge and skills to prepare you for a career in the industry. The college has close links to construction companies and the training exercises and working conditions you will undertake as part of the course are similar to those experienced on site.
Conditions at this training centre reflect those on site. Students are required to wear protective overalls, toe protective footwear, a recommended basic tool kit and text book.
Trips to building exhibitions and building sites are planned as part of your studies. You can also take a Health & Safety test.
Construction is a booming industry and is forecast to continue with this trend. We have invested in our Construction buildings, to improve the space and work conditions for our students.
This workspace allows both carpentry and bricklaying groups to have the very best teaching and learning experience on their chosen course.

The course is for 16-19 year olds who wish to enter the professional world of construction.
Practical assessment, online tests, underpinning knowledge (method statements) and project work
Students will need to purchase protective overalls and toe-protective footwear as well as a recommended basic tool kit, a reference book and basic stationery. Students are allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred.
GCSE grades at 9-1, to be assessed at interview.
Students will generally progress onto a Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying Construction Skills or a Level 1/ Level 2 Apprenticeship. Successful students may move straight into employment or continue training towards supervisory and management positions and qualifications within the Construction Industry.
