About this course

The Gym & Fitness Centres industry was worth £1.7 billion in 2022 and since COVID has grown by 25.2%. The growth in this industry is largely driven by the low-cost gym sector, so we were delighted to strike a partnership with PureGym West Byfleet. Brooklands sport & fitness students will have multiple experiences through the year with PureGym West Byfleet to enhance their knowledge and skills while also offering opportunities for students work experience and employment.

The Foundation Diploma / Extended Certificate in Sport & Fitness explores the interests of sport, coaching, exercise, and health & fitness. The course is endorsed by CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport & Physical Activity) which means on successful completion of the year, students will be accredited with a Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification, and may progress on to the the Extended Diploma for one further year. The course provides good preparation for a career in sport, exercise, or health & fitness.

Megan - Level 3 National Foundation Diploma

“I play football for Walton & Hersham FC U18’s and I go to the gym regularly working on a general fitness programme”

“I always wanted to do something within sport my whole life. This BTEC helps with what I want to do after which is physiotherapy”

“I am from a very sporty family. My brother plays rugby, my sister plays netball, my mum is a pilates teacher and my dad swims”

“I think the college is a better fit for me than 6th form as the course and assessments are more practical and I have more freedom”

"We are currently planning work experience, I will be assisting a P.E. department and hope to be shadowing a sports club physiotherapist”
