How To: Use Essential Oils to Aid Sleep & Relaxation

During this tough time for everyone it is important to keep our bodies healthy and keep up with our mental health.  People use essential oils to help with stress or anxiety and also if they have trouble getting to sleep using essential oils can help this. They have also been shown to relieve headaches and alleviate pain and in addition they can help improve skin conditions and help treat a common cold and encourage healthy digestion. The top 8 essential oils people usually use are lavender, lemon, frankincense, oregano, eucalyptus, wild orange, tea tree and peppermint. There are many different brands that use different essential oils such as neom which sell diffusers and the white company also sell different diffusers. The brand elemis also sell lots of different products that have essential oils in them.

The most common way people use these essential oils is by directly inhaling them out of a bottle, this is the fastest way for it to enter the body. The other popular way to use essential oils is through a diffuser which fills up the room that the diffuser is in with tiny particles of the essential oils which gives the room a calmer and pleasant smell. Some people use essential oils on their skin, when doing this focus on areas of muscular tension, tightness and tension, you can also rub the essential oils to pressure points such as your temples, wrists and third eye. Another really good way people use essential oils is by rubbing it on your feet then leaving it on their while you sleep, this then slowly travels up your body and you inhale it throughout the night. You can also use essential oils in your favourite cosmetic products that you use daily such as your toners and serums. Another excellent way to use essential oils can be in your bath or shower, when running your bath just add a few drops of the oil into the bath and it will allow you to inhale this when laying in your bath and helps with relaxation. You can also add a few drops of diluted essential oils to your wash cloth which then you can inhale or gently exfoliate your body with it.

In general using essential oils is a brilliant way to help with stress, insomnia, relieve headaches and to encourage a healthy digestion. Essential oils are easy to use and you can find them everywhere, especially during this tough time everyone could be benefited with using essential oils

There are many essential oils that can help aid you sleep and many methods to help:

How to use essential oils effectively from home
The most common way to use essential oils is to inhale them. But there are many different ways to use them and still have the effect of them. 

  • Inhale the oils directly
  • Apply a few drops to a tissue and hold under your nose/ into your t-shirt below your nose to have a calm day
  • Use a diffuser or humidifier for a more relaxed home
  • Dilute the oils and directly apply to the skin
  • Apply some to the palms of your hands, or soles of the feet
  • Add drops into your shower routine before bed  (shampoo or body wash) to feel relaxed before your sleep
  • Add a few drops to your pillow and feel refreshed in the morning
