Forensic scientists aid criminal investigations by collecting and analysing impartial scientific evidence for use in courts of law to support the prosecution or defence in criminal and civil investigations. You will have an enquiring mind, good communication skills and a methodical approach to work. You will gain a thorough understanding of relevant aspects of crime scene examination, human anatomy and physiology. The broad spectrum of skills learnt on these courses can be applied to a variety of university degrees and careers.

The Art & Design department at Brooklands College is a very exciting and expanding area. The students are taught in state-of-the-art design studios which allow for a wide range of specialist and contemporary skills to be studied. The facilities have workshop areas including a Mac suite, photography studio and darkroom, screen print studio, fashion studio, 3D workshop and jewellery workshop. The large atrium gallery space is the perfect location for student exhibitions. Our aim is to deliver engaging courses that enable students to develop their design and employability skills, and to be the first step towards their future creative careers. All the courses are enhanced with educational visits to galleries, visiting speakers and work experience.

The Catering and Hospitality industry is growing fast and provides plenty of scope for career development and opportunities for working at home and abroad. You can gain valuable hands-on experience in our well-equipped professional kitchens, on-site restaurant and the bakery shop; all of which are open to students, staff and members of the public. Students will also have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience placements – previous locations have included major sporting events and Michelin starred restaurants. The Construction department caters for learners of all abilities and levels from level 1 to level 3 in Brickwork, Carpentry and Electrical Installation, through the leading awarding body in Construction. Learners may wish to progress to a higher level or move to an apprenticeship programme. Higher level learners can use their courses as stepping stones into supervisory roles in Construction professions. The Engineering department at Brooklands College has a formidable reputation and boasts some of the best practical training facilities to be found in the UK. Hairdressing is a growing industry with new innovations in treatments, products and techniques. Successful hairdressers are always in demand and can take their pick from many jobs, such as working for magazines on photo shoots through to high street salon stylists. Beauty therapists start their career working in a Beauty salon or spa. They can also go on to specialise in a specific area such as massage, skin care or make-up for TV and film. All students are expected to wear uniforms and present themselves in a professional manner as your practical work will be assessed in our commercial salons.

Students enjoy classes in our mock cabin crew room and during your course you will learn everything you need to know to have a successful start in the industry. Depending on your choice of course, you will study units such as Retail Travel, Travel Destinations, Resort Reps, Cabin Crew, Cruises and you may even learn to speak some Spanish!

People who choose to work in the Uniformed Public Services, whether this be the Emergency Services or the Armed Forces, often choose to do so because they like variety and a challenge. These jobs are not always conventional desk jobs, and staff working in them support each other in order to fulfil their roles successfully. All courses start with a ‘boot camp’ to ensure that both teamwork and discipline, particularly self-discipline, are embedded into the course. There are a variety of trips throughout the year in the UK, depending on the level you are studying. Students are required to wear a uniform one day a week and on any trips. You will learn drill and inspection, preparing you for all of the Public Services.

From an employer’s perspective, basic literacy and numeracy rank among the top three most important factors in recruiting school and college leavers alongside your qualifications.
